A Las Vegas casino has filed a High Court writ claiming US$700,040 (HK$5.46 million) in debts it alleges it is owed by a Hong Kong businessman.
The Venetian Casino Resort, run by Las Vegas Sands, wants Chu Nin-yiu - who it says also uses the name Stephen Chu Nin-yiu - to repay the alleged debts, along with interest and costs.
The writ says that on June 26 last year, the casino advanced US$1 million in credit to Mr Chu, who it says repaid US$299,960, but failed to pay the balance by the due date of October 24.
Mr Chu works for STD Holdings, which distributes and trades in computer accessories.
He is also understood to be a horse owner.
It is the second time this year that the Venetian Casino Resort has sued a Hong Kong punter for alleged debts.
