Hong Kong Arts Festival 2003

Advance bookings by fax, post or Internet have opened for next year's arts festival which opens on Feb 14. Highlights include the Orchestre National De France, the Hamburg Ballet, jazz giant Herbie Hancock, 'barefoot diva' Cesaria Evora, Steve Reich's Three Tales, Robert Lepage's the far side of the moon, Laurie Anderson's Happiness and the Stuttgart Opera. Armani Backstage

Three Becomes Dream

Sally Shih Sheung-mei has been chosen as the gold prize winner of the 28th Graduation Exhibition of the First Institute of Art And Design. As this month's featured artist of the Arts Centre's Young Artists exhibition, Shih presents oil, acrylic and mixed-media paintings, and sculpture and installation pieces. Fruit Of Labour

Installation artist Leung Yiu-Wah presents an exhibition centred entirely on the apple. Carolyn Carr

Carolyn Carr is a painter and fashion designer from Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the great-great-granddaughter of Soong-dynasty benefactor Julian Carr. Her paintings fuse Eastern and Western elements: female figures are embedded and layered in a luscious natural environment that embraces the world of fantasy. 8910.11 Cattle Depot Arts Festival

If you haven't yet visited the Cattle Depot Artists Village - a stretch of vintage, red-brick barn buildings that house some of the SAR's more experimental and avant-garde artists and performing arts groups - this weekend is a good time to go. A three-day festival starts on Friday with a forum, 'Cultural Platform In Between Urban Spaces', that brings together officials, artists, cultural commentators, academics and the public, 6pm. On Saturday, there is Cantonese opera at 3pm, and the Cattle Rave Concert from 7pm-11pm with local DJs and bands. On Sunday, Cinema Paradiso At Cattle Depot features open-air screenings, and throughout the weekend, exhibitions take over the various barns and outside courtyards. Irene Ryder In Concert

The 1970s singing sensation returns to the stage this week, after a long break from live performing after she was attacked with acid 25 years ago while standing outside her home in Tsim Sha Tsui.
