Anti-triad officers interview editors of Eastweek magazine
Anti-triad officers yesterday visited Eastweek's headquarters, where they interviewed top editors for three hours about the magazine's front-cover photograph of an abducted actress.
The weekly, which has been shut down by owner Albert Yeung Sau-shing, has said it will co-operate with any criminal investigation into the kidnapping, which took place 12 years ago and is believed to have involved actress Carina Lau Ka-ling.
The edition, which appeared last Wednesday, has been banned from sale after the Obscene Articles Tribunal classified it as obscene on Monday.
More than 10 plainclothes officers from the police's Organised Crime and Triad Bureau visited the office of the Eastweek magazine in China United Centre in Marble Road, North Point. The officers arrived in five cars just before 3pm and left at about 6pm after meeting senior magazine staff. No arrests were made.
Police refused to comment last night. 'The case is classified as confidential and the investigation is continuing,' a police spokeswoman said.
The Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority has received 1,054 public complaints against Eastweek since last Wednesday. A further 307 complaints were filed against Three Weekly, which also published the semi-nude picture.
