The last thing companies want are mistakes in their advertising campaigns. But sometimes such errors can be a plus, especially if they promise long-lived publicity, as in the case of fried chicken chain KFC.

Years after the KFC slogan 'Finger Lickin' Good' was mistranslated into 'Eat Your Fingers Off' in mainland outlets, the famous blunder reappears in The Book Of Useless Information, a new tome by Keith Waterhouse.

But SAR feels it should point out such goof-ups are a cross-strait phenomenon. In Taiwan, the translation of the Pepsi slogan 'Come alive with the Pepsi Generation' became 'Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead.'
