The private room in Grissini restaurant at the Grand Hyatt felt like a time capsule on Wednesday night. Some of the most visible socialites of the 1990s gathered to celebrate the return of Korean flight-attendant-turned-entrepreneur Nancy Miller Jong, and no one seemed to have aged a bit.
If anything Miller Jong looked younger than when - as the wife of Dragonair founder Stephen Miller - she thrilled Hong Kong with her exotic dress designs, antique shops and audacious property deals.
Her fellow guests also appeared to have cheated time. Playboy property tycoon Cecil Chao Sze-tsung looked perkier. Thanks to laser treatment to correct his eyesight, he has ditched his trademark aviator glasses to reveal smooth, wrinkle-free features. His companion Wendy Xu, a mainland 'medical supplies' saleswoman, also appeared younger, although we may be confusing her with someone else.
We also spotted Brenda and Kai-bong Chau, writer Winsome Lane, watch-maker Philippe Charriol, fund-raiser Alice Chiu, jewellery designer Kai Yin Lo, Conrad Hotels' Dennis Clarke and South China Holdings director Howard Gorges.
Miller Jong (above left with Chao and Xu) now circles the globe endlessly, roosting occasionally at her Knightsbridge, London, home to practise her 'hobby': property development.
