The United States and Singapore should complete the text of their landmark free-trade agreement (FTA) within the coming days.

The city-state's trade minister George Yeo Yong-Boon said yesterday: 'This week, we hope to conclude substantively our FTA with the US.'

It is expected that the deal - Washington's first with an Asian country - will be finalised formally when US Trade Representative Robert Zoellick visits Singapore on November 18.

US trade negotiators are in Singapore this week to finish the text.
