Secret FBI videos have been flown to Hong Kong to support a US bid to extradite three men accused of trying to obtain missiles for the al-Qaeda terrorist network, a court heard yesterday.
The three were arrested after they allegedly offered drugs in return for Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to undercover officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Hong Kong in September.
A provisional date for the full extradition hearing was yesterday set for January 6.
Tight security surrounded Eastern Court yesterday as the three suspects were brought in by prison van. Armed tactical response officers surrounded the building.
Prosecutor Wayne Walsh told the hearing the men's defence counsel, Jonathan Acton-Bond, had only received copies of the FBI tapes yesterday morning.
Mr Walsh added that the US authorities had relayed their concerns over the use of the tapes.
