I write with reference to the report by S. N. M. Abdi headlined 'Bangladesh backing for Pakistan upsets India' (South China Morning Post, November 14).

India is described as the 'Hindu' neighbour of Bangladesh. However, India is a secular country, with no state religion and full freedom of faith for all its citizens.

It has the largest minority Muslim population in the world, numbering more than 140 million. The Muslim community has made very positive contributions to nation building in many roles.
