MAINLANDERS HELD OVER BLESSING SCAM

Police have arrested five mainlanders for reportedly trying to cheat a woman, 59, out of $240,000 in a blessing scam in Oi Tung Estate, Shau Kei Wan. The four women and one man - all from Maoming in Guangdong - were held for questioning. The number of blessing scams - where people extract money from victims for bogus blessing rituals - rose 34 per cent to 277 in the first nine months this year.
