A son who used a hammer to kill his parents was jailed for life yesterday.
A Court of First Instance jury unanimously found Ma Siu-chiu, 21, guilty of murdering his mother, Choi Lai-ying, 63, in their Tseun Wan home.
Ma was cleared of murdering his father, Ma Chi-keung, 68, but the jury found him guilty of manslaughter.
Mr Justice Pang Kin-kee passed a mandatory life sentence on Ma for murdering his mother and jailed him for a further 12 years, to run concurrently, for killing his father.
'Your father was strict and demanding, but I cannot see a reason for killing one's father because of those personality disorders,' the judge said.
'I am sure everyone has been scolded by their parents.'
Ma's barrister, Frederic Whitehouse, said his client was an introvert with an elderly and old-fashioned father.
