A 27-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of having hacked to death a seven-year-old boy and his mother when she refused to give him money.
The suspect, the live-in lover of the mother's grown-up daughter, was arrested by officers from the New Territories North regional crime unit following a raid on a village house in Tin Shui Wai.
The arrest came less than 12 hours after the two bodies were found covered with blood-soaked newspapers in a three-storey house in Tan Kwai Tsuen, Yuen Long.
Police sources say the woman was hacked to death last Wednesday after refusing to give her killer money. Her son then had wire tied around his neck before he was led downstairs and killed in the same way. His bloody handprints were found on the living room wall.
The man allegedly stole $900, a mobile phone and audio and video equipment from the Yuen Long house after the killing.
Results of postmortem examinations showed that the boy and his mother died of multiple cut wounds to their necks, a police spokeswoman said.
