Further to our letter of October responding to the complaint of Henrik Wesslen (Pollution on campus, Education Post, October 19) about idling buses with running engines at the parking lot of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), I would like to inform you of our follow-up action. We visited the site on October 23 and found some buses waiting there. Though none of them had their engines running, we urged their drivers to keep them switched off while waiting. Otherwise, the emissions of their idling buses would pollute the surrounding environment. Subsequently, we have also asked the bus companies concerned and HKUST to take measures to stop the engines of idling vehicles under their control. W.C.
