SHANGHAI is going back to the future, and experiencing a renaissance as one of China's most important trade and commerce centres.
A ground-breaking ceremony for a huge plaza development recently marked the Hong Kong group Ryoden Development's role in the northern city's boom.
The Gateway Plaza is Ryoden's brainchild. The Hong Kong-listed company has been the master planner and project manager of the seven-block commercial-residential complex.
Gateway Plaza is the maiden project of a new joint venture, the Shanghai Hua Zhong Property Development.
The venture partners are the Hong Kong-based China Nation Enterprises, the Shanghai Dyestuffs Corp and the Shanghai Municipality Xuhui District Property Management.
The plaza, which covers 41,735 square metres, will provide 221,195 sq m of floor space in seven towers.
