THE head of the Education Department has guaranteed a new place in the next academic year for a boy seeking a transfer because of alleged triad intimidation. Director of Education Dominic Wong Shing-wah said a place would be found at a government or aided school by next month. It was revealed that a school in Kwai Chung was recommended to Leung Wing-kiu yesterday. The Form Two student from Tsing Yi was beaten twice last year by schoolmates for refusing to pay protection money. Wing-kiu, 16, had earlier rejected a Mei Foo school, claiming it also had a reputation of triad infiltration, as did the Kwai Chung school, which he said last night he would reject. Mr Wong rejected criticism that there was a gap between the education and security authorities on how to protect students from triad intimidation. ''We have issued guidelines to schools to advise them to report to the police if matters like triad intimidation arise,'' Mr Wong said.
