A DRIVER found in possession of more than 1.7 kilograms of a drug ''speedball'' containing heroin and ''ice'' was yesterday sentenced to 16 years' jail.
Appearing in the High Court, Tang Yiu-cheung, 28, pleaded guilty on July 19 to two counts of possession of dangerous drugs for unlawful trafficking.
The drugs included a blended mixture containing heroin and ice which goes by the street name speedball in the United States.
The case had been adjourned until yesterday by Deputy Judge Gould to enable the Crown to produce evidence on the method of blending heroin and ice, and its effect.
Tang's girlfriend, saleswoman Lo Wai-ling, 19, was convicted on one count and will be sentenced on August 17.
Prosecuting counsel Dennis Law told the court that customs officers on duty in Kowloon City on June 18 last year saw Tang and Lo arrive in Hau Wong Road by car.
