The mistress of a jailed former police official was yesterday sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment and fined 15.4 million yuan (HK$14.4 million) for her involvement in a massive smuggling scandal. Former Guangzhou traffic police officer Li Shana - also identified as Li Xiaona by mainland media - was the mistress of Li Jizhou, a former deputy minister of public security and the top official in charge of anti-smuggling activities. Li Jizhou was sentenced to death, suspended for two years, last year for bribery and dereliction of duty. The Guangzhou City Intermediate Court also sentenced Hong Kong businessman Leung Fai-wah to death for masterminding the smuggling ring and bribing Li Jizhou. The smuggling ring imported 262 cars from Hong Kong and evaded taxes of more than 50 million yuan.
