BEFORE investment adviser Marc Faber took off for Tibet earlier this week, he left us this short Latin quote by Seneca to ponder over: Si quem volueris esse diritem non est quod augeas divitias, sed minuas cupiditates.

Which loosely translates as: ''If you want to be rich, then your aim should not be to increase your fortune, but to lessen your wants.'' After duly pondering, we believe that if he has said that seriously to many Hong Kong financiers recently, he will probably be forced to follow his own advice.

Perhaps his week in Tibet will provide Mr Faber with new inspiration - to advise clients to invest in the exotic flower import business - encouraged by the Buddhist mantra Om mani padme hum, which translates as ''The jewel in the lotus''.
