Not even the winners are always perfect and rookie trainer Sean Woods will make gear changes to his recent acquisition Fabulous despite yesterday's win (right, on the outside). Stepping up to 2,000 metres for the first time, Fabulous (Robbie Fradd) slipped up from the rear along the rails, then hooked around Enormous Way to win strongly after a pretty ride.

While he was happy to score with the horse, which was having just his second run for the stable, first-season trainer Woods was not completely satisfied. 'I actually felt his finish was a bit disappointing,' Woods said of winner number 11 for the season. ' Maybe he would do better in a truly-run race, but I thought he was disappointing because, when he works, Fabulous is able to quicken and I thought he should have done it better at the finish today.'

Woods said he felt Fabulous had his limitations but had appreciated the longer distance and would now be fitted with a visor. 'He might focus better in that,' Woods said. 'I'm hoping that maybe there is another win in him this season. The problem is that he is only a little horse so that limits his scope a little bit.'

Woods was also happy with the progress of another acquisition in sprinter Helene Elegance, who improved on his recent efforts to finished fourth in race nine at his first outing for the stable. 'He has a lot of natural speed but he looks like he's been putting it all into his first two furlongs in his races and saving nothing for the finish,' Woods said. 'Hopefully, we can get him relaxing a bit better and use that speed at the right end. That was a better effort this afternoon.'
