The Datsuns
(V2)
An interesting feature of the latest wave of rock, which is currently washing over the globe, is its unusual points of origin.
Not only is Scandinavia aflame with the riffs of yesteryear, but so, it seems, is New Zealand. The latest of that nation's musical exports, following hot on the heels of D4, are the Datsuns.
Whereas most of today's young upstarts have their noisy roots in proto-punk, the Datsuns are metallers through and through. And innovative they are not.
Singer Dolf De Datsun and his cohorts obviously believe imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and it would be a fair guess that, judging by their tunes, their heroes include AC/DC (At Your Touch), the Cult (Freeze Sucker), Thin Lizzy (What Would I Know) and Mudhoney (Lady).
