Feast Of Dates
Pearl, 9.30pm
This is the story of the date palm, a remarkable tree that survives against all odds in the scorching deserts and mountains of the Middle East. To the people who inhabit the vast expanse of the Arabian desert, the date palm is known as 'the tree of life'. It is the bedrock on which their culture was founded; without the date palm there would be no food, no materials to build houses, no shade to grow tender vegetables. Without it, life would be impossible. This film delves deep below the surface of the sand to discover what allows this mysterious tree to withstand temperatures higher than 50 degrees Celsius, scouring winds and years without a drop of rain.
