Your correspondent Mark Wan complained about speeding minibuses in the Western Harbour Tunnel (South China Morning Post, December 27). To make the harbour crossing safer and keep traffic moving, the Western Harbour Tunnel Company monitors vehicles' driving speeds closely on a daily basis. Drivers of each vehicle in the tunnel area shall not cause or permit the vehicle to travel at a speed exceeding the speed indicated which is 70 km/h. Speeding is strictly prohibited and prevented via a radar speed check. Radar speed detectors are being set up along the tunnel (both north- and south-bound) regularly to monitor vehicles' driving speed. Over the last six months, a total of 164 cases of vehicles exceeding the speed limit were reported and are being prosecuted. The company values every comment made by our users and we will continue to provide a safe and quality crossing. ELISA CHAN Commercial Manager Western Harbour Tunnel Company Limited
