Man admits chop attack wearing wife's bra and pants
An estranged husband dressed up in his wife's bra and knickers and attacked her with a meat cleaver before holding her hostage in a three-hour standoff with police, a court heard yesterday.
Liu Kwok-pun, 36, tried to strangle his wife, Wong Hung-ying, 34, with string until she fainted in her Belcher Street flat in Western District on April 26, the Court of First Instance heard.
Friends who happened to visit alerted police, who finally broke into the flat after a three-hour standoff and found Liu cutting himself across the abdomen with a fruit knife, prosecutor Anthony Cheang Kei-hong said.
Liu admitted one charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
Deputy Judge Derek Pang Wai-cheong heard Ms Wong had moved out of the marital home with her two children, aged 12 and 13, in March. On April 26, she returned to her new flat and found Liu in her underwear. He attacked her with a cleaver before trying to strangle her.
After a three-hour standoff, police broke into the flat and arrested Liu, who was slashing his abdomen with a fruit knife.
