The People's Court

Pearl, 8.35pm

The longest-running American courtroom TV series, The People's Court, was first shown in 1981. In this season, the court is presided over by Judge Marilyn Milian (above) who has 16 years' legal experience and whose decisions, based on current law, are final and binding. The show features ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard by Milian. A team of researchers scour the courts across The United States to find suitable cases, ranging from disputes between family, friends and neighbours to dissatisfied customers suing businesses. First up is a couple suing their son's ex-girlfriend over the alleged theft of some furniture, followed by a dispute between two brothers. The final defendant claims his girlfriend lied her way into a relationship with him and fooled him into paying for her divorce, when she was still happily married.
