HERE'S THE challenge. It's not necessarily in this order, but you have to navigate your way in an unfamiliar and deceptive terrain with the help of a map and compass. Then you have to take a four-kilometre trail, paddle in a kayak, do some steep hill climbing, sometimes by rope, and swim 100 metres. And all the while you are competing against the clock.
But wait - here comes the most difficult and demanding part of the exercise: this is the real thing.
That's right. This is no computer adventure game. Forget about virtual reality - this is reality.
Billed to be the first of its kind in Hong Kong, the Bonaqua Youth Challenge is calling on those aged between 13 and 19 to participate in this multi-sport race.
Organised by Seyon Asia, who were behind the Hong Kong AXN Challege last April and the annual Hills Mountain Marathon and Half Marathon series, the challenge aims to promote sports as something fun and both physically and mentally rewarding.
The competition has two age categories: 13 to 15, and 16 to 19. It will take place at the Tai Tam Country Park and Tai Tam Scout Centre on January 18 while a pre-race training session will be held on January 11. The latter is free for the first 10 participating teams (each team has two members) of each age category.
