I have been reading Liberal Party chairman James Tien Pei-chun's continuous effort to follow through the issue of the proposed tax on foreign workers.
The party has been unfairly singled out. Mr Tien has offered explanations backed by some very strong facts and figures. He addressed a number of points on this issue, through these columns, on December 31 and I think his tax proposal deserves serious consideration.
Unfortunately, some people are responding in an emotional way.
In a letter which was published in the South China Morning Post on December 7, I said I had paid the foreign workers' levy out of my own pocket when I lived in Singapore, because I chose to have the luxury of having foreign workers.
Then, after paying the government tax for a while, I decided I had a choice and hired local help instead.
This proved to be very successful.
