British band Suede will meet Canto- and Mando-pop when they make the scene in three annual Asian music awards. The five-piece band will first appear at the 25th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards organised by Radio Television Hong Kong on January 17. Then they're off to Shanghai for the Channel V Music Awards on the 19th, and back south to Singapore for the MTV Asia Music Awards on the 24th. Suede's record company, Sony Music, said that despite the band's tight schedule - a press conference on January 16 in Taiwan and a live concert on the 18th - they still will make it to the RTHK Awards because 'it is a meaningful event'. 'Some people might find it strange to see Suede at these awards. But they appear at the Brit Awards in their home country too. They want to show their support for music from different countries,' the record company's spokesman said. The band will perform one song at the RTHK award ceremony and present more than one gong to Canto-pop star winners. Suede will perform for the fourth time in Hong Kong at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on January 20, just as soon as they arrive from the Channel V Music Awards in Shanghai.
