Red Gold: Blood And War World, 10pm This episode looks at the period from the Spanish Civil War - which saw blood collected, refrigerated, and carried on to the battlefield for the first time - to World War II, when the expectation of tremendous casualties inspired a massive blood-donation effort. Only the Allies possessed supplies of blood and it played an important role in winning the war. Blood And War also tells the stories of Charles Drew, an African-American who headed the Plasma For Britain campaign but was legally barred from donating blood in the US; Sir Marmaduke Hussey, a World War II soldier saved by a blood transfusion; and Janet Vaughan, who ran a blood-transfusion service out of a London pub. ER Pearl, 8.30pm Lewis (Sherry Stringfield) further alienates chief cardiologist Kayson (Sam Anderson) and is beset with family problems, as is Benton (Eriq La Salle). Carter (Noah Wyle, above) finally proves himself to Benton, and Greene (Anthony Edwards) tries to save a young gang member who is the victim of multiple gunshot wounds.
