Skyworth challenges foreigners
Skyworth Digital Holdings, the mainland's No 3 television maker, has declared war on foreign competitors in the country's high-end market.
The company will launch a new model cathode-ray-tube (CRT) projection TV this month.
The domestic market for projection TV is dominated by foreign competitors such as Toshiba, Panasonic and Sony.
Skyworth claims it is the first mainland TV maker to master the core technology involved.
Skyworth investor relations general manager Rose Cheung said the new model would offer the same high picture quality as foreign brands at prices mainland consumers could afford. She declined to give details.
The product launch will mark the beginning of meaningful competition between local and foreign players in the country's high-end TV market segment.
