When it comes to sleep technology, the A-Fontane Group is a market leader.

Established in Hong Kong more than 30 years ago, the mattress and bedding manufacturer has grown to become one of the leading brand names in its field.

In addition to an extensive sales and showroom network in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the company has made major inroads in overseas markets, particularly Canada, where it operates three showrooms.

The company also maintains a sales office in Sydney.

The success of the group and its popularity in Hong Kong led the judging panel to select A-Fontane for an Honorary Award.

Group chairman David Hui says the company has more than 20 years' experience in the textile market and participated in the assessment because it wanted to take the next step in promoting its products to the world.

'The ultimate aims participating in the Top Ten Brandnames Award were to enhance the popularity of our company, to build recognition and to strengthen our market competitiveness in the community and thus strength our reputation internationally,' says Mr Hui.

The company has invested heavily in recent years to improve its product design and development, and has introduced a number of innovative products.

They include the Evergreen Quilt and the One-For-All Sleeping Pack, which received high marks for innovative construction and product packaging at recent trade shows.

Mr Hui says the investment has begun to pay off in sales and brand recognition.

'A-Fontane achieved a first in bedding design with our product line-up at recent textile trade shows,' Mr Hui says.

'In recent years we have made a huge capital investment in the study of sleep technologies, such as the successful development of the Eco Pillow.'

Last year, A-Fontane was awarded a gold medal in Geneva at the International Exhibitors of Inventions, for excellence in the design of the Pillow Selector.

The system uses advanced optical and image capturing technologies to measure a customer's neck and shoulders, compiling data which is then used to manufacture a custom-fit Eco Pillow.

The end product comes in basic sizes and has the option of two layers of adjusters as well as an occipital, which can be transformed into 48 shapes to provide the best head and neck support.

Consumers say the product reduces neck stiffness and contributes to a better nights' rest.

Those testimonials are backed up by the technical team at A-Fontane, who say the pillow is ergonomically designed to reduce stress on the cervical curve during sleep while maintaining the natural curve of the spine.

The product has been praised by the Hong Kong Productivity Council.

Mr Hui says he supports the brandname competition and believes it is good for industry.

'Winning the Top Ten Brandnames Award has had a positive impact on our company,' says Mr Hui.

'I think this campaign can benefit participating companies and enterprises, and also help to motivate others.

'It is beneficial to the economic development of Hong Kong in the long term.'
