The head of Hong Kong's Catholics yesterday added his voice to calls for the government to be rational in listening to the public's views on the proposed anti-subversion laws.
Bishop Joseph Zen Ze-kiun said yesterday: 'We should stay calm and I hope God will give us wisdom. We should not indulge in who is winning or who is losing [on this issue]. I hope that the government will seriously consider our worries and analyse our views objectively.'
But Bishop Zen refused to comment on whether Secretary for Security Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee had been emotional in her comments on the proposed legislation.
On Tuesday, Mrs Ip described comments by those opposing the proposals as exaggerated and misleading.
The Law Society also expressed regret after Mrs Ip described the group's response to the proposals as 'negotiation tactics'.
In a statement yesterday, the legal body said it had responded in good faith to the consultation paper.
