Crew on the Kiboko take time out as they wait for the wind to pick up during the Four Peaks Race off Lamma Island yesterday. Kiboko, skippered by Vic Locke, was the first boat to cross the finish line at 10.50am, but their time was almost four hours slower than expected by the organisers because of weak winds. The weather was also the reason behind the withdrawal of a large number of teams from the Aberdeen Boat Club-organised event. 'The lack of wind was why we had this unusual number of teams feeling they couldn't go on,' said race committee spokesman Martin Quaile after 11 of the 19 boats that started the race on Saturday morning pulled out before they could reach Shek Kok Tsui at the northern end of Lamma Island, the race's finish line. Kikobo was followed home an hour later by Mark Ashton's Ate. The Wizards, champions of 2000 and 2001, finished third for line honours. Quaile said results on handicap would be announced later. The race involved sailing to four destinations in Hong Kong - Ma On Shan near Shelter Cove, Violet Hill in Repulse Bay, Mount Stenhouse on Lamma and Lantau Peak on Lantau - with two crew members from each boat running to the peak and back at each stop.
