CHILDREN'S HOME TO CLOSE DUE TO COSTS

The Social Welfare Department will close down Wai Yee Hostel in Tuen Mun in March, one of its two. On the government Web site, Director of Social Welfare Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said the department spent a monthly average of $40,762 on each child in the two homes, compared with $10,466 in children's homes run by non-government organisations.
