In last week's Technology Post, you asked if IT businesses should be optimistic. I don't think so. How can anyone be optimistic when unemployment in Hong Kong just keeps on rising? The government and Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa seem to do nothing for small businesses in Hong Kong, especially IT companies. My company has been in Web design and network services for two years and we survive only because we are so cheap. Anybody can start a service company today and many customers are interested only in paying the cheapest price. How can Hong Kong have a better future when everyone is interested only in the cheapest price? At the same time, it is impossible to get big contracts unless you are in one of the big companies. How can I get a government contract? The IT tenders have so many requirements, only the big companies can hope to get them. So how can small IT companies in Hong Kong prosper?
