HEWLETT-PACKARD

Hewlett-Packard Hong Kong has appointed Casey Poon (below) as general manager for HP Services.

Mr Poon previously headed the technology and infrastructure practice for HP's Asia-Pacific Consulting & Integration unit.

His new position will put him in charge of managing a business portfolio that offers services from IT strategy and implementation to operational and support services.

Mr Poon joined HP Hong Kong as an applications engineer in 1986 and was the first Unix technical engineer in the company. His other positions in the firm have included district manager for IT infrastructure services and major accounts, country professional services manager for Hong Kong and general manager of HP Consulting in Greater China.

He also spent time as general manager for HP Consulting Asia Australasia in 2001.

'Mr Casey brings to his present position a wealth of expertise in building customer relationships and IT services capabilities . . . With him at the helm, HP Services is well positioned to take advantage of the immense opportunities the market presents,' says Kee Chi-hing, general manager, HP Services, China/Hong Kong.

PCCW

Telecoms provider PCCW has appointed Ted Hsiung as head of business development at its software spin-off Cascade.

Mr Hsiung, at present the president of business development and management, commercial group, has worked for PCCW and Hongkong Telecom for nine years.

He was previously president of commercial services at PCCW.

Between 1996 and 1999, he was director of customer services.

Before joining Hongkong Telecom, Mr Hsiung spent 19 years working at Imperial Oil, a Canadian affiliate of Exxon Corporation. PCCW said Mr Hsiung would be the final appointment to Cascade's management team.

VERITAS

The storage software firm has announced that Paul Sallaberry (above) will step down from his position as executive vice-president of worldwide field operations at month end.

No reason was given for Mr Sallaberry's move, but the company said that he would remain with Veritas as executive vice-president, sales strategy.

While the company searches for a replacement, its sales organisation will be led by chief executive, chairman and president Gary Bloom. A successor is expected to be announced within six months.

'Paul Sallaberry has contributed greatly over the past 10 years as Veritas has grown into one of the leading software companies in the world,' says Mr Bloom.

'On behalf of our customers, shareholders and employees, I want to thank him for his unparallelled commitment to the success of the company.'

BEA SYSTEMS

Application infrastructure software firm BEA Systems has hired IBM sales and marketing veteran Charlie Ill to head up its worldwide sales operations.

Mr Ill will oversee BEA's global sales team, including all regions across all product lines.

Mr Ill spent 24 years at IBM, most recently as vice-president of worldwide geography sales for all IBM software products.

'My experiences and market observations tell me BEA has an exceptional opportunity, one that I simply couldn't pass up,' says Mr Ill.

'I'm looking forward to [helping] BEA achieve its potential as a world-class enterprise software provider.'

He will report directly to Alfred Chuang, the Hong Kong-born founder, chairman and chief executive of BEA Systems.

Mr Chuang says he is 'delighted to count Charlie among our growing list of world-class executives'.

Mr Ill began work at BEA on January 7.

INTEL

Chipmaker Intel has announced the appointment of three new senior vice-presidents - Robert Baker, Patrick Gelsinger (below) and Patricia Murray - and four corporate vice-presidents: Leslie Culbertson, Brian Harrison, William Holt and William Swope.

In addition, Cary Klafter has been elected to serve as corporate secretary.

The company has also announced the retirement of Kirby Dyess, vice-president and director of Intel Capital Operations, and an Intel employee since 1979.

Mr Baker, 47, is general manager of the technology and manufacturing group and shares responsibility with Sunlin Chou for managing Intel's technology development and manufacturing activities.

Chief technology officer Mr Gelsinger, 41, is responsible for the direction of Intel's technology and research. Ms Murray, 50, (below) is director of global human resources.

Ms Culbertson, 53, director of corporate finance, is responsible for corporate finance, tax, licensing and customs, and all operational finance and accounting control functions.

Mr Harrison, 45, is co-general manager of fab/sort manufacturing and is responsible for Intel's wafer fabrication plants worldwide.

Mr Holt, 50, is director of logic technology development.

Mr Swope, 56, is general manager of the software and solutions group.

Mr Klafter, 54, is vice-president of legal and government affairs and director of corporate affairs.
