Apology demanded

I FEEL I must reply to ''Gweipoh Groan''. I found the letter both offensive and repulsive. That a person would sit down and take the time to write such an insulting letter against womankind, save for the ''demure Oriental ladies'' not only galls me, but makes me wonder what kind of people we are raising in today's society - to have such little respect and complete disregard for the feelings and rights of others.

To propose such an assessment and possible ''tax'' to be charged to women solely based on their appearance (especially after a flight that has, no doubt, lasted for at least 12 hours) is not only ludicrous, disgusting and humiliating, but it also exemplifies the typical sexist/racist attitude that expatriate ladies are forced to live with on a daily basis in Hong Kong.

I know I am not alone in believing the author of that letter owes expatriate ladies of Hong Kong a sincere apology. L. MAYNES Ap Lei Chau
