Top-seed Martin Sayer defeated second seed Ronald Chow 7-6, 7-5 in the boys' under-18 singles final of the Lions Hong Kong National Junior Tennis Championships 2003 at Victoria Park on Sunday. Sayer, age 15 and ranked 803 in world junior singles, was the u-16 boys' champion last year. The talented King George V School student is gearing up for the u-16 Junior Davis Cup qualifiers at the end of April. It is hoped the SAR team can advance to the finals for only the second time. Two years ago, junior stars Brian Hung Lap-hei and Jack Hui Cheuk-wai were instrumental as Hong Kong qualified for their first finals in Chile. Number three seed Cindy Lee Si-nga won the girls' u-18 title when she defeated number one seed and defending champion Joanne Cheung Wing-shan, 7-6, 6-4. Lee, a full-time scholarship athlete at the Hong Kong Sports Institute in Sha Tin, has now won successive girls' titles locally after securing the CRC Open schoolgirl's singles crown last November. Ambrose Wong defeated Ko Ka-chun 6-2, 7-6, to claim the boys' under-14 singles title.
