Football superstar David Beckham and his Manchester United teammates will be featured in a new multi-million-dollar soft drink advertisement, according to the London Evening Standard.
The British newspaper said the latest Pepsi commercial, which was shot in the style of a western classic, would feature Beckham and his team confronting European rivals Real Madrid.
In one scene, Beckham challenges Real's goalkeeper Casillas, and the two men step outside to face each other in a dusty square, the report said. The paper also said that Beckham and teammates Gary Neville, Juan Veron, Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer flew to Almeria in Spain, backdrop for many of the spaghetti westerns of the '60s.
Director Tarsem Singh praised the players' acting abilities. 'A lot of them were incredible actors,' the London Evening Standard quoted him saying. 'But Beckham was just great.'
Also quoted in the story is Beckham, who described 'the plot' of the advertisement: 'I walk into a bar and the Real keeper Casillas drinks my Pepsi. So I take him outside for a penalty shoot-out . . .'
Whether the England captain puts one past Casillas remains a closely guarded secret, to be revealed only
