I refer to James Lau's letter headlined 'Noisy Sunday' (South China Morning Post, January 30) concerning noise generated from roadworks at Des Voeux Road West, west of Western Street (at 280 Des Voeux Road West).

The roadworks are being carried out by Hutchison Global Communications Limited on Sundays and public holidays to avoid causing traffic congestion during weekdays.

The company has a valid construction noise permit issued by the Environmental Protection Department. It is anticipated that the works will be completed by the end of the month.
