Twelve-year-old Yiu Hei-man turned from football princess to queen, as Jockey Club Ti-I College were crowned Hong Kong's inter-school girls' champions for the third season in a row.
Ti-I beat Ko Lui Secondary School 1-0 in Saturday's championship clash at Kwai Chung Sports Ground and the young striker Hei-man, six years younger than some of her teammates, scored the match-winning goal.
Ti-I boasts several of Hong Kong's top young players in their side, and the school's sports coach, Fung Hoi-man, said his players had developed a strong team spirit. 'They became very united in their desire to win this competition,' he said.
Another clean sheet meant Ti-I went through the whole competition without conceding a single goal.
Ko Lui coach Betty Wong, a former national team player, said Ti-I were the better side and the champions simply had superior all-round skill.
'Many of their players train regularly with clubs in the Hong Kong women's league, while we only have one,' said Wong, whose side were champions in 2000 - the competition's inaugural year - and runners up to Ti-I in 2001.
