Experts from Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland have recommended the three governments jointly study the feasibility of a bridge linking Hong Kong and the west side of the Pearl River Delta.
Shiu Sin-por, executive director of One Country Two Systems Institute in Hong Kong, said a seminar in Macau on Saturday concluded the project should be built as soon as possible.
About 30 delegates attended the seminar, including Ling Ruiming, vice-director of Guangdong Provincial Government's development research centre, and Dong Yan, director of the Institute of Comprehensive Transportation under the State Development Planning Commission.
The commission is expected to complete a feasibility study on the bridge by the end of June.
A commission delegation is due to discuss the bridge proposal with a Pearl River Delta sub-group under the Central Policy Unit in Hong Kong on Saturday.
'I think the situation about the bridge plan will become clearer this autumn,' Mr Shiu said.
