Business integration specialist webMethods is stepping up expansion in Greater China with a plan to open a software development centre in the mainland.
The facility is part of a strategy to raise investment in Asia following sales growth in the region of 47 per cent last year.
The centre will be webMethods' second in Asia. It opened its first in Japan in 2000.
'The economic reforms in China are fuelling potentially huge demand for our integration technology,' webMethods chairman and chief executive Phillip Merrick said.
The admission of the mainland to the World Trade Organisation had pushed forward the restructuring of local industries, he said, while a sluggish world economy had created more opportunities for companies to pursue mergers and acquisitions across Asia.
'Organisations throughout the region are moving into a period of increased global competition and are quickly realising that webMethods' integration platform is the solution for streamlining operations and achieving global competitiveness,' Mr Merrick said.
