STFA Seaward Woo College (SWC) track ace Wong Cheuk-bun stole the show at Wan Chai Sports Ground on Wednesday. There was much celebrating as SWC stormed to their first inter-school title - the Division Three Area One boys' championship. Ho Man Tin-based SWC picked up a total of 245 points - way clear of second-placed Kwun Tong Government Secondary School on 169. The wide margin was mainly due to a swashbuckling effort from the grade B team who swamped the rest with a huge 121-point haul. The B team took valuable points from discus, javelin, triple jump and high jump while Cheuk-bun's triple gold in the 100m and 110m hurdles, and 4x100m relay capped the performance. Cheuk-bun, who races for club team The Citizens Athletic Association, broke the inter-school 100m hurdles record in a time of 14.38 seconds. 'It's good to break records,' said 16-year-old Cheuk-bun who also set a new PB in the 100m - running it in 11.60 secs. SWC coaches Ng Yu-lun and Charlton Wong Chi-tong, were elated that the students have become champions in their first year of employment with the school. 'Some of them are already better runners than me - I'm really proud,' said Wong, who ishimself a middle-distance specialist. The school's grade C 4x100m relay team showed a never-say-die spirit. When fourth-leg runner Chik Keung-kit grabbed the baton, the team were struggling in fourth position and set to finish third in the grade C competition, behind Ning Po No.2 College. But Keung-kit, winner of the 800m earlier in the day, timed his run to perfection. Bending into the home stretch he unleashed a terrific turn of pace and with 50 metres to go left his rivals trailing. The win secured enough points to take the grade C second-place trophy. Grade A champions were SKH Leung Kwai Yee Secondary School, and Lee Kau Yan Memorial School (LKY) took the grade C title. Cho Yat-nang, 13, of Ning Po No.2 College broke grade C inter-school records in the 100m (11.80 secs) and 200m (24.32 secs). In girls competition, Our Lady's College (OLC) were overall champions with 234 points - 54 ahead of LKY. OLC also took the grade C title. Tak Oi Secondary School comfortably claimed the grade A title, and Buddhist Hung Sean Chau Memorial College pipped OLC to the grade B title by 1.5 points. In yesterday's action at Wan Chai Sports Ground, CCC Rotary Secondary School and St Francis Xavier's College tussled for the boys' title, while the girls of CCC Heep Woh College and Mongkok Workers' Children School were also in the chase.
