ENGINEER JAILED FOR BRIBE CONSPIRACY

The head of an engineering company was yesterday jailed for four years by the District Court for plotting to offer $1.5 million in bribes to the father of Canto-pop singer Eason Chan Yick-shun in return for a $100 million public housing project contract. Cheung Ting-bong, 49, was convicted of conspiring with Lai Sai-sang to offer an advantage to Chan's father, Chan Kau-tai, a chief building services engineer with the Housing Department. Chan Kau-tai's trial date has not been fixed. Mr Lai has not ben charged.
