Unreal Tournament 2003 is a first-person shooting game dizzy with action. Battles are wild and crazy as players run around jumping, springing and firing at the same time.
The game lets you kill opponents in style. After firing the killing blow, you can execute taunt animations like smacking your behind, pointing and cutting your throat. Voice taunts can even mock your opponents with shouts of 'loser' and 'eat this'. The voice-overs in the game are of reasonable quality but some of the language is profane.
There is no campaign or story in the single-player mode. Single-player missions just pit you and your team against the computer bots. The only amusing part of the single-player campaign is that you must defeat your chosen teammates to prove yourself before they are willing to join you.
With the intense focus on multiplayer, the developer, Epic Games, seems to believe that players do not just want to kill bots - they want to frag nOObs (kill inexperienced players) and humiliate their friends online in multiplayer mode.
Style is important, but guns - lots of guns - are better and Unreal Tournament includes an awesome array of weapons.
Each weapon has its strengths and weaknesses, so learning when to use them is important. If you find yourself alone and in a close-quarters battle, the flak cannon is your best friend. At longer ranges you will need to find some different 'friends'.
