An eight-year-old boy who came from Guangzhou to live with his father was allegedly strangled by his mother at their flat in Tseung Kwan O yesterday. The mother, 32, who is also a new migrant, was being questioned at Kwun Tong police station last night. A post-mortem is expected to be preformed on the boy today. The boy's father, surnamed Wong, 47, rushed home at 4.30pm after receiving a phone call from his wife, who reportedly told him she had killed their son. Mr Wong found his son on a bedroom floor of the flat in Choi Ming House, Choi Lau Court. His wife was hysterical and tried to jump from their 19th-floor flat. Mr Wong subdued her and phoned police. Ambulancemen certified the boy dead on their arrival at the flat. The woman was taken by ambulance to the police station. She was arrested and detained for further questioning. She was said to have been stressed after being unable to cope with her son, who was often sick and unable to adjust to living in Hong Kong. The boy arrived in Hong Kong about 18 months ago, while the mother joined him earlier this year. Police believe the boy had been strangled and suffocated.
