Orange crush

Orange seems to be a fashionable colour for make-up these days. Where can I get some?

The Dictator rules: Not everyone can carry off orange without looking washed out or like a circus runaway. Odd colours around the eyes often end up looking like an infection, so I suggest testing a fad like this on your cheeks, lips, or, easiest of all, nails. For cheeks, try Nars, in a colour called Exhibit A ($205 at Joyce Beauty, G/F, 38 Russell Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2970 2319). Francois Nars offers excellent hues throughout his make-up line, including a safe, dark tangerine nail polish called Hunger ($145) and a pretty lip gloss ($190). Gloss is a smart, quiet way to make the orange transition. But should you be bored with orange in the blink of a made-up eye then be penny wise with Red Earth. Its Duo Blush Com-pact comes in a wearable Tulip orange ($95; G/F, 7 Cameron Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2368 8173). Lip glosses come in $20 tubs of dark, sparkling CI156 and sheer PK098. Want more colour? Go deep with Make Up Forever's Liquid Lip Color in 1 ($170, Seibu, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 1529). Unless you're supporting the Dutch football team or going to a theme party, avoid head-to-toe orange or you might look like a carrot.
