Junior and Potential category winners at the SAR Olympic Committee's Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards on Monday night matched the delight and surprise of their illustrious seniors as they accepted their honours.
The six junior aces got HK$10,000 each, a bronze trophy, and a Cathay Pacific return air ticket to the Asian destination of their choice at the glitzy event held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
The six Potential winners each took home a tidy HK$8,000 and a similar giant-sized trophy to the juniors.
Junior honours went to Alison Yu Chui-yee (wheelchair fencing), Chung Kwok-leung (swimming), Wu Siu-hong (tenpin bowling), Chan Wai-man (windsurfing), Lai Wai-ling (mentally handicapped, table tennis) and Lam Kai-tsun (cycling).
The Potential stars were Chan Ho-ling (squash), Chan King-yin (windsurfing), Chan Wing-suet (swimming), Fan Pui-shan (physically disabled, fencing), Agus Hariyanto (badminton), and Lau Sui-fei (table tennis).
Kwok-leung, a final-year St Joseph's College student, said he never imagined he would be thrust into the spotlight because of his efforts in the pool.
