Global China, which owns the Sing Tao newspaper group, is reportedly in negotiations to acquire the defunct Eastweek Magazine, according to sources. The group's chairman, Charles Ho Tsu-kwok, could not be reached for comment as he is in Beijing attending the NPC meeting. Eastweek lost its fight to overturn a ruling that banned an edition carrying a cover photo of a semi-naked actress taken during her abduction 12 years ago. The government had said it would press for criminal charges against the publication, which was shut down by owner Albert Yeung Sau-shing in the wake of the controversy. Earlier this week, 11 former managerial staff of the magazine were arrested and released on $5,000 bail each.
