Hewlett-Packard has released a new notebook personal computer geared to roam Hong Kong's growing number of wireless broadband hot spots.

The Compaq Evo N620c boasts up to six hours of battery life and an integrated gigabit local area network controller that allows users to connect to the Internet at speeds 10 times faster than current Ethernet connections.

Targeted at business and professional users, the new Evo runs on the same Pentium-M processors used in Intel's new Centrino mobile platform. These chips come at speeds of 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 gigahertz.

That means up to 70 per cent better battery performance compared with Intel's Pentium 4-M chips with equivalent clock speeds, according to HP.

Weighing just 2.2kg and measuring 3.05cm thick, the Compaq Evo N620c should be a snap to carry around the more than 200 locations in Hong Kong - including coffee shops, large malls and the airport - where PCCW's Netvigator service has set up wireless, high-speed Internet coverage.
