A Cathay Pacific flight engineer is one of the patients admitted to hospital with atypical pneumonia.
Father of two Rob Saunders was admitted to hospital last week. He had been on holiday from his job with the airline before his admission and is believed to have travelled to the mainland and Bali.
Parents with children at Clearwater Bay School, where his children are pupils, were told yesterday of his illness and informed that his children had been withdrawn temporarily from school.
His wife, Dee, speaking from her home near Sai Kung last night, told the South China Morning Post: 'My husband is seriously ill. This is a very stressful time. I have two children to look after and I have not eaten or slept for three days.'
Mrs Saunders withdrew her two children from the school as a precaution. Neither of them were showing any sign of illness.
Parents yesterday received a letter from the school's principal, Marian Eastwood: 'You may already know that a parent of two children in school is in hospital with symptoms similar to those displayed by victims of the pneumonia outbreak. The children have no symptoms and are fit and healthy. However, they will not be coming to school as a precautionary measure.'
